Standard single door, shipped
When we open shipping more widely, every door will come in two parts, the frame around the opening and the bookcase door itself, with a written install guide for your builder. You can request a quote now and we'll let you know what may be possible for your location.
What you actually get
A Wonder Door is a real, structural door dressed as a fully-loaded bookshelf. Not a thin panel with books glued on, the bookcase is the door. It comes in two parts: the frame that fits around the opening, and the bookcase door itself that hangs in the frame.
- Solid construction. A rigid carcass that won't sag under loaded shelves.
- Heavy-duty hinge hardware selected for the loaded bookcase door.
- Adjustable shelves that move up and down so you can lay it out around your books and pieces.
- Clean reveals that read as architecture, not a hidden hatch.
- A hidden latch trigger on every current build, reliable, quiet and easy to live with. We're exploring other mechanisms (pull-book, magnetic touch-release, key-locked) for future builds.
- Standard finishes for shipped doors, with a wider material range available on Auckland custom installs.
Common installations
Where Auckland homeowners get the most value out of a hidden door:
- Concealing a home office off the lounge.
- Walk-in pantry doors that keep the open-plan kitchen calm.
- Wine and whisky rooms tucked under the stairs.
- Walk-in robes that sit beside a bedroom or living area.
- Storage and laundry rooms in entryways and hallways.
- Children's playrooms off the family room.
If you're not sure whether your wall will work, send a few photos and we'll tell you straight.
The reveal
Closed it's a bookshelf.
Open it's a doorway.
That's the whole point of a Wonder Door. Books, ceramics, plants, the styling is real, the carcass is solid, and the swing is clean every time. No mid-century gimmick, no creak. Just a piece of joinery that quietly disappears into the room and earns its keep when you open it.

Bookcase door FAQs
-
How much does a custom bookcase door cost in Auckland?
Every Wonder Door is priced for its opening and installation. The dimensions, inward or outward swing, shelf layout, finish and site requirements all affect the cost. We review your photos and rough measurements first, then provide a written quote before any work starts. -
Can a Wonder Door replace an existing internal door?
Often, yes. It depends on the opening, surrounding wall, floor level and clear space for the bookcase to swing. We can review photos and rough dimensions early, then complete a pre-build measurement before the door is made. -
What is the difference between an inward and outward swinging bookcase door?
An inward door opens away from you into the room beyond. An outward door opens towards you. The best option depends on the available clearance, room layout and how you want to use the doorway. We will confirm the swing direction and hinge side before quoting the build. -
Can the shelves hold real books?
Yes. The bookcase is the door, not a lightweight cover over one. It is built with a rigid carcass, heavy-duty hinge hardware and adjustable shelves for real books and everyday objects. -
Can I choose the colour and finish?
Yes. Every Auckland door is planned for its room, with the finish, shelf layout and other visible details agreed before manufacture. We can help you choose a light, dark or timber-look finish that works with the surrounding joinery. -
How long does a Wonder Door take to build?
A typical lead time from deposit to installation is 6 to 10 weeks, depending on workshop capacity, material availability and the details of the door. We will confirm the expected timing with your written quote. -
Which parts of Auckland do you cover?
We install across greater Auckland, including central Auckland, the North Shore, east, west and south Auckland. Auckland projects are our priority while we build up our installation process and capacity.
