A door that hides as a bookshelf
Built for real homes,
not photo shoots.
A Wonder Door is structural joinery first and a magic trick second. Solid carcass, heavy-duty hardware, fully-loaded shelves, finishes that match the rest of your interior. The reveal is the bonus.

Prioritising Auckland
We're taking a small number of orders and prioritising Auckland-based doors while we build up our installation process and capacity.
Where they shine
Rooms that suddenly make sense
A bookcase door is most rewarding in the rooms that aren't quite working, the office off the lounge, the pantry by the kitchen, the awkward storeroom near the entry. Replace the visible door with continuous joinery and the whole space settles down.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is a hidden bookcase door?
A fully functional door built to look and behave like a real bookshelf. It carries real books and decor on the front and swings open to reveal the room behind. Our doors come in two parts, the frame that fits around the opening and the bookcase door itself that hangs in the frame. -
What do you build at the moment?
Right now we make inward and outward single bookcase doors. Every door is customised to fit your opening and your home, including its dimensions, shelving, hinge side, finish and installation details. -
Can you build a bigger or fully custom door?
Every Wonder Door is customised for the opening and room. We currently focus on inward and outward single doors, with wider material and finishing options available for Auckland installations. -
Where in New Zealand do you install?
We're prioritising Auckland-based doors while we build up because we want to be on site for the early installations. You can still send us a quote request from elsewhere in New Zealand and we'll talk through what is possible. -
Why install in Auckland first?
Every installation teaches us something we want to put into the written instructions for the rest of the country. Doing the early ones ourselves means the shipped version that lands at your builder's place is properly thought through, not a first draft. -
What trigger mechanism do you use?
Our current doors use a concealed latch system with a book handle. We tested and adjusted the handle and catches on the first Stonefields door so the opening action is easy to repeat. Other mechanisms remain future ideas until they have been properly tested. -
How much does a hidden bookcase door cost in NZ?
We're focused on inward and outward single doors, with every build customised for its opening and home. We quote in writing before any work starts, with the dimensions, materials, finishes and installation scope clearly set out. -
Can I install a bookcase door myself?
We are not offering a general DIY or shipped-door option yet. For now we are prioritising Auckland projects where the opening can be checked and the door installed on site while we continue refining the process. -
How long does a Wonder Door take to build?
Typical lead time from deposit to installation (or dispatch) is 6 to 10 weeks, depending on workshop load and material availability. -
Do bookcase doors actually work in New Zealand homes?
Our first installed door is used every day in a Stonefields home, holds real books and opens cleanly under load. We measure and customise each current door for its actual opening rather than assuming a standard imported size will fit.
