We are currently in our development phase and are installing in Auckland to trial out. Our goal is to be able to send a boxed door around New Zealand that a reasonable DIYer or Builder can install themselves. Yes, absolutely. Whether you’ve got a modern build in Stonefields or a classic villa in Ponsonby, we can fit a bookcase door to match your space. Ever since watching Batman people around New Zealand love the idea!
Costs vary depending on size, materials, and finish. A simple bookcase door is one price, while a fully custom design with hardwood and lighting will be more. We’ll give you a clear quote before we start.
Installation of the door is extra and at the moment we can offer this in Auckland but we can provide instructions for installation by a builder outside of Auckland.
If you’re handy with tools, you might give it a crack, but most people prefer us to handle it. These doors need to be perfectly balanced, and trust us, you don’t want a secret door that jams halfway open.
We are working on a video tutorial and a very visual how to guide as we roll out.
Every project is different, but most installs can be completed in a day once the bookcase is ready. Custom jobs may take a few weeks to design and build, depending on complexity.
We will be releasing a single door that can be slightly moulded to the width and height you need.
We make every Wonder Door to order, so the width and height can be set to suit your space. In New Zealand, the majority of standard internal doors are 1980mm high by 760mm wide. Other common widths are 810mm and 860mm, and you’ll also find taller doors at 2200mm or 2400mm for higher ceilings.
If you’ve got something different in mind, no worries, we can match it, but note it will be custom and may have a larger investment. Whether it’s a standard bedroom doorway or a unique custom opening, we’ll size your bookcase door so it fits perfectly and still works like a dream.
We are working to offer a book pull mechanism where a fake book is pulled to open the door. This is a bit more complex than you may think!
We are also looking to offer a simple lock mechanism that fits behind something on the shelf that can be opened with a key, then just a push-pull open ability. This is simpler.
It is cheaper to have a simple push and pull mechanism than the book pull.
